Director of Athletics

Kelvin Smith is in his first year at Stewart County. Kelvin graduated from Yazoo City High School in Yazoo City, Mississippi in 1996. After high school he was awarded a scholarship and attended Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, where he played football as a defensive tackle and finished his career as an offensive tackle. After he graduated in 2000 with a BS in Telecommunications, Kelvin then began working at University of Alabama-Birmingham in the Assistant Athletic Director Internship Program.  Kelvin then went back to school at Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama in 2001 and received an Alternative Bachelorette Certification in secondary English. He began his coaching and teaching career at the former Jess Lanier High School in Bessemer, Alabama.  He has coached and taught for fourteen years.  He has been a head coach for multiple sports besides football from softball, boy’s varsity basketball and boy’s indoor as well as outdoor track and field. Kelvin has a Master’s in Educational Leadership and is currently finishing his Doctrine in Educational Sports Management. He is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.  Kelvin is married to his lovely wife of eight years Ashley.  Kelvin & Ashley have one two year old daughter Kaydan.

In 2016, Kelvin was hired as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Stewart County High School to rebuild and retool not only the football program but all of Stewart County athletic programs.  Hisoverall goal for all the student-athletes and programs is to establish successful programs both academically and athletically.
